The 19th century saw the rise of the press. The works of those who did not yet call themselves the Impressionists, and in particular the first exhibition on Boulevard des Capucines, were harshly debated in the gazettes. The format chosen for this catalog, as well as the typographies and the use of lines, evoke the graphic spirit of the newspapers of the time.
